Five Men Held Near RAF Fairford Released on Bail as Police Probe Possible Foreign-State Link
The five RAF Fairford suspects were released on bail on Monday after extensive interviews, but counter-terrorism police say they remain under investigation and have not been charged. The men, all British nationals from London aged between 23 and 25, were arrested early on Sunday near the US-operated air base in Gloucestershire, first on suspicion of explosives offences and later on suspicion of preparing an act of terrorism. Detectives are examining whether the men acted for, or were used by, a foreign state, with Iran among the countries under review. The Iranian embassy in London has denied involvement, and police say they are still working to establish the circumstances and any motivation.
